Thursday Walk 116 PT18: All the Old Faces Iron Photographer 51 Thursday Walk 115

UTATA is a salon in the traditional sense. A parlour. THIS is a place to talk. Tell stories. Ask questions. Be silly. Be serious. Learn. Teach. Grow. Relax. Wind up or down. We talk about photography a lot, naturally. We try to grow. Some of us are pros, some want to go pro, others want artistic fulfillment, some are trying to be better photographers and some just come for the pie and conversation.
We're all about doing things with our photography. We have a site, ongoing projects, swapping events and a lot of very interesting chatter about this thing we do. The best way to get to know the group is to jump right into the conversation – by participating in threads or starting a thread yourself!
Who Should Join?
Whoever is polite and interested. Notice polite is first.
The Utata Pool:
Post your best shots. The special shots you just want us to see, or that you're especially proud of. Diversity is the key to the Utata pool.
In order to maintain a unique and interesting pool, Utata does not accept photographs that are in more than five (5) other pools. However, once a photo has been in the Utata pool for 30 days, you may then add it to any number of other group pools. You may only post photos to the pool one at a time. If you were the last person to post a photo, you must wait for someone else to post before adding another photo.
We use HAL, a custom program created by our very own flickr guru David Wilkinson, to patrol the pool and remove photos that have breached the above limits.
Note: While we all love naked people and people parts, this is an all-ages, all-sensibilities group with a fairly large public traffic. For this reason, we do not allow nudes in the pool.
The Utata Group
We're pretty wide ranging in terms of topics - we go from technical to silly - and it's all good provided you follow these rules:
1. Be polite (we mentioned that before, but it bears repeating). That means you use the rules your Mama taught you, please. We don't much like sugar coating, but we won't eat burning oil, either .
2. Please do not post announcements or mass invites for other groups. Yours is probably lovely, but allowing such announcements leads to more of them. And you know where that leads :)
The Utata Web Site:
Our website, www.utata.org, is a group endeavor and it contains the work of people in this group. We publish a daily blog, feature articles, concept pieces, short essays, daily spotlights, and, of course, projects. See how you can contribute.
Utata Tagging Projects
You must be a member of the flickr group Utata and have a member page on Utata.org to participate in projects. Once you've tagged a photo for a project, you're done! Project photos do not also have to be in the pool. Note that while we respect the use of watermarks, they interfere with the aesthetic flow of our project pages. We ask that you not use watermarked photos in any Utata projects.
Unless a deadline is announced, all tagging projects remain open for late submissions. Projects are updated regularly and automagically, so your photograph will be added to the project within a few hours. Older projects aren't updated as regularly, so it may take a few days before your late submission to appear in the published project. If you've tagged a photo and it doesn't appear in the project, please read "Why don't my photos appear on Utata?"
