Fireworks! Blow me away!!
 |
I absolutely LOVE fireworks and this is the second Fourth of July in a row that I have not seen them. (Well, I did see about five or six different shows from about 25 miles away across the Vineyard Sound, the Elisabeth Islands and Buzzards Bay. So, uh, yeah, they were small.)
So those of you that saw fireworks and shot fireworks . . .
Let's see them here!

I took a bit over 100 shots last night and this is probably the best one. It isn't easy...

I used ISO 200, f/11 and a manual release.

I'll second the "not easy" aspect of shooting these. I tried a dozen different exposure times and found that the longer the better for most shots. 6 - 8 seconds or more produced some good results. There was no wind here last night, so that helped keep the bursts fairly steady, but left all the smoke...
Here are a few of my better shots that I culled out:

these are all great! i'll admit that it ain't easy, but i'm pretty happy with what i got tonight here in Portsmouth.
and for this thread, i thing we need to dispense with the "small only" rule and go for the mid-sized, TL ;)

"They come from miles around to dance the jukebox down
And dig the good time sounds they all play
And all across the harbour
Night lights shinin' in
It looks just like stars on the water
Just like stars on the water
Feels like stars on the water, let it rain.."

Nothing special. I had a my chocolate chip, cuddled between my arms and asleep on my lap while I took the shot.

Man, these are FANTASTIC!! And you are right, Erik, no small size for this thread.
nhpe1 - I had no idea we have the same last name. My husband insists that all Carroll's are related. I guess that's what happens when you are a clansman. ;)
Thanks everyone!! I can't wait to get myself to another show. Let's keep this thread open to all Fireworks, not just for the 4th!

Not easy indeed! We were up at a lake, so there wasn't a "pro" show to shoot, but lots of people along the shore firing them off from various spots:

And do sparklers count as fireworks?

Hey everyone! This is my 1st post here! Here's a few from the Woodsville show right on the muddy banks of the Connecticut river, and the Littleton SummerFest. These were all 1 - 2 second exposures
